The new spur line will run from the existing Outer Harbor line at Grand Junction Road to provide rail services between Port Dock Railway Station and Adelaide The project has re-established the 1km line and train station, which were previously decommissioned in 1981. These works included the construction of a 120-metre-long station platform, a shelter canopy for passengers, a new facilities building for train drivers and a Communications Equipment Room.
